DRYER Vent Cleaning
We have all shared that frustrating experience when we go to the dryer to remove our warm, freshly dried laundry – only to clutch a wad of damp or soggy clothes instead. Feeling the top of the dryer – it is scorching hot, and the clothes are practically steaming. We slam the door to the dryer, exasperated, reset the timer and walk away. Perhaps we can fold the clothes sometime today, and in the meantime the utility bills rack up – and hopefully the house does not catch fire.
There are enough things to frustrate us every day, don’t let damp laundry get the best of you.
Cleaning Process
Everclean has more than one process for cleaning dryer vents and it all depends on the type of ducting and how blocked the duct is. Our technicians have brushes and cables to scrub the ducting, as well as a compressed air-scrubbing system. We will also use blowers or vacuums depending on the setup. When the compressed air system is used, we have a portable gas-powered compressor that is very efficient.
Our technicians will first begin by checking the air flow with an anemometer. They will then clean out the dryer itself, the flex tubing going to the wall, and the ducting all the way to the exterior vent. Once the cleaning process is complete the air flow is checked again and the measurements are logged.
Rooftop Vents
Many dryer vents exhaust through the roof of your home. In these cases, we have to access the vent by getting on the roof. Everclean is properly insured and has the equipment to access high vents, because of the other services we provide, such as window cleaning. Sometimes access to the vent requires going through the attic.
Is The Problem The Dryer Itself
Or A Plugged Dryer Vent?
The most likely cause of slow drying times is lint buildup in the dryer vent – especially if the dryer is creating heat. If your dryer stays cold then you most likely need a new heating element or other related issues.
What You Can Do: First, make sure the hose from the dryer to the wall is not kinked or restricting air flow. Next, turn on the dryer and go outside to check the airflow where the vent comes out of the house. If there is not strong airflow then the vent will need to be cleaned. The flap on the vent cover should flip all the way open. If it is hanging down, then the air flow is too weak and that means there is a blockage somewhere in the venting system.
